Deep Bowl Press is located
just east of St. Louis, close enough to the big city to attend all of the arts, but far enough away to be able to hear the
geese honking their travel plans as the seasons change. Our mission is to publish poetry and short fiction collections written
by women only and submitted through our annual contests. We also consider queries for nonfiction manuscripts. Our editorial
preference leans more toward ethnic writers, but we are first and most interested in great writing.
From
time to time, we will also post calls for submissions for anthology projects. Please see our nonfiction submissions page for
information on our current projects. If you wonder
what type of work we like, that’s easy. . .we like work that surprises us. We like work that makes us mad because we
didn’t think to write that way first. We appreciate writers who exceed traditional convention in writing and those who
take chances.
A few of our favorite writers and their books are:
- Ninety-five
Nights of Listening: Poems (Melinda Markham)
- The Secrets of a Fire King: Stories (Kim
Edwards)
- The Coronary Garden (Ann Townsend)
- Where
the Long Grass Bends: Stories (Neela Vaswani)
If you haven’t read these, you
should. We
look forward to your submissions!
